Senior RF Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior RF/Electrical Engineer to join our dynamic System Engineering team, supporting the Department of Defense (DoD). This role is pivotal in ensuring the compliance and optimization of DoD RF/Radar equipment, adhering to both national and international standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • RF/Radar Equipment Analysis: Apply advanced RF and radar theories, along with applicable DoD guidance and NTIA manual standards, to evaluate and critique the transmitter, receiver, and antenna characteristics of DoD RF/Radar equipment.
  • Compliance Review: Assess RF specifications to determine if they meet DoD, NTIA, and ITU standards. In cases of non-compliance, provide a detailed justification and recommend corrective actions to program offices and designers to ensure compliance.
  • Spectrum Management: Participate actively in meetings with various national and international spectrum engineering bodies, such as the MC4EB Frequency Panel (FP), NTIA Interdepartmental Radio Advisory Committee (IRAC), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Contribute to actions and negotiations to ensure that national and international regulations adequately support spectrum programs.
  • System Certification: Oversee the certification process for system spectrum and coordinate agreements for system operations in foreign countries. Participate in special working groups under the MC4EB Frequency Panel to develop and review DoD-wide RF management policies and procedures.
  • Technical Review & Guidance: Direct research, analysis, and evaluation of technical data related to International Radio Regulations. Ensure that the Department of Navy (DoN) complies with NTIA instructions for RF management by reviewing the technical characteristics of proposed DoN communications-electronics (C-E) equipment.
  • Engineering Analysis: Conduct thorough engineering analysis to assess equipment compliance with military standards, International Radio Regulations, and Office of Telecommunications Policy (OTP) criteria for electromagnetic interference (EMI) control. Evaluate the susceptibility of proposed equipment to harmful radio interference and assess potential EMI impacts on existing systems.
  • Recommendations & Monitoring: Provide expert recommendations for spectrum signature measurements and detailed interference studies on proposed equipment developments. Monitor the progress and results of these studies to ensure successful outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Security Clearance: Must possess a Secret Clearance or be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Technical Expertise: Demonstrated expertise in RF engineering, RF equipment certification compliance with NTIA standards, radar systems, RF design components (transmitter, receiver, antenna, filter), and link budget analysis. Experience with commercial wireless 5G/6G, RF modeling, and simulation is highly desirable.
  • Federal Agency Experience: Proven experience working with various federal agencies, including NTIA, FCC, DoD, FAA, and DoT.
  • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in RF Engineering.
  • Education: Bachelor's or postgraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Technology, or a related technical discipline.
