Job Purpose

The ADAS Hardware (H/W) Engineer is responsible for the development of the Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) Camera, Radar, and LIDAR hardware/software integration to support AD & ADAS functions; aligning with the vision of Honda Development and Manufacturing of America (HDMA) of ensuring project deliverables are achieved on time and with a quality mindset.  

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversee the hardware integration to the vehicle to ensure mechanical and electrical requirements are fulfilled.
  • Oversee mechanical simulation and testing for hardware components.
  • Project management for responsible development and research projects
  • Instrumenting and troubleshooting vehicles for testing.
  • Analyze and report the results of simulation and test data.
  • Recommend solutions for test failures and correlate with appropriate departments.
  • Analyze performance of complex systems using automated software driven techniques.
  • Generate test reports to document results of testing and to communicate issues discovered.
  • Design, fabricate, and modify test equipment and data acquisition systems to meet internal needs.
  • Work with external test labs and proving grounds to direct testing activities.

 

Qualifications, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), Computer Science Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 0-3 years of relevant experience
  • Must have an understanding of vehicle structure, component integration, simulation, and software integration.
  • Hands on mechanical ability / Understanding of Vehicle systems
  • Analytical skills to prepare prototype vehicles for testing
  • Troubleshoot system issues and propose solutions.
  • Some travel domestic and internationally should be expected to visit various proving grounds, visit suppliers’ engineering offices and production locations and support Honda factories during pre-production launch timings.  
  • Valid driver’s license required to operate vehicles on proving grounds.  
  • PC Skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other technical software)
  • Excellent communication skills coupled with the willingness to pro-actively seek out information from others and convert concepts into specific requirements.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems and Vector CAN tools is a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Strong collaboration skill(s)

 

Working Conditions

  • Commitment to work necessary work hours to achieve all responsibilities, including overtime and operating periodically at early and late day hours.
  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs.
  • Kneeling, bending, sitting, standing, and maneuvering inside of vehicles is required.
  • Travel is sometimes required - ~5% (International travel may be requested).
  • Office work is split between on-site and remote (Work From Home, WFH).
  • Vehicle-level testing is conducted either on-site in a specified lab or offsite at a supplier/contracted facility.
