East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) has six (6) openings and invites candidates who have the appropriate qualifications to apply for these intern positions (part-time, approximately 19 hours per week, when school is in session OR temporary full time - 40 hours per week for up to 6 months on school breaks) in the following areas:
- Area Engineering of the Pipeline Infrastructure Division
- Geotechnical of the Engineering Services Division
- Electrical/Industrial Control Systems Engineering
- Pipeline Rebuild of the Pipeline Infrastructure Division
- Wastewater Technical and Emerging Issues
- Water Resources Projects of the Water Resources Planning Division
The Engineering Aide will assist professional engineering and technical personnel by performing the following typical tasks:
- Learning, developing, using hydrologic/hydraulic simulation computer models to analyze rainfall/runoff, open channel and floodplain flows.
- Supporting the dam safety program with research related to regulatory requests (State and Federal) which includes understanding relevant technical studies and compiling analysis results and findings.
- Ensuring hydropower license requirement compliance for the two largest reservoir facilities.
- Analyzing, evaluating, and reporting for long term water supply planning and water shortage contingency planning.
- Hydraulic modeling to determine available flow and pressure within the water distribution system.
- Reviewing and planning documents written by other public agencies, evaluate impacts and write comment letters.
- Writing Notice of Exemptions to comply with the California Environmental Quality Act.
- Developing alternative analysis for new pipelines, pumping plants, regulators, and water storage tanks.
- Compiling and evaluating water quality data.
- Performing wastewater laboratory analyses.
- Evaluating water treatment plant hydraulic data.
- Performing statistical analysis on water quality parameters and water treatment plant operations.
- Gathering field data at treatment and distribution facilities.
- Preparing cost benefit analyses using engineering economics.
- Preparing engineering drawings and specifications.
- Developing and testing control system applications.
- Developing Drawings using AutoCad Revit or Plant 3D.
- Meeting with customers to discuss potential recycled water uses.
- Use PCs for preparing reports, memos, graphics, and database.
- Presenting project findings and results (technical and non-technical) to management and other EBMUD staff.
Requirements:
1. Completion of the twelfth grade, or its equivalent; and
2a. Current enrollment in an undergraduate level accredited engineering or related technical degree program, with completion of at least 60 semester units (90 quarter units); OR
2b. Current enrollment in a graduate level accredited engineering or related technical degree program; OR
2c. Recent completion (within 12 months) of an undergraduate or graduate level accredited engineering or related technical degree program.
