The Safety Program Manager/Transportation Specialist serves as a member of the Technical Programs team in the Ohio Division Office. The selectee administers, promotes, evaluates, and coordinates safety programs and initiatives. Responsibilities involve close coordination with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT); Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs); other Federal, state, and local agencies; industry; and private citizens.
At the program and project levels, the incumbent provides guidance, knowledge, and assistance to internal and external partners to ensure that the development and delivery of Federal-aid Highway Projects and Programs are consistent with all applicable Federal laws, regulations, policies, and executive orders. The selectee actively promotes the development and implementation of innovative and state-of-the-art technologies, practices, processes, and products to advance safety for Ohio and FHWA's partners.
As a Safety Program Manager/Transportation Specialist, you will:
- Provide expertise assisting in policy formulation, problem solving, development, promotion, and demonstration of state-of-the-art practices on a wide range of Transportation programs, including training and presentations to stakeholders in developing plans, goals objectives for implementing deliverables for assigned Transportation programs.
- Conduct and participate in complex program reviews to evaluate and determine the extent of efficiency, effectiveness, and economy with which Transportation programs and administrative operations are carried out in conjunction with the agency’s mission and policies.
- Serve as the point of contact for all office Congressional, Headquarters, and other miscellaneous requests for information. Coordinate with appropriate staff to draft responses, reviews, finalizes and distributes correspondence.
- Develop a wide range of methodologies to collect multitude of complex data/information. Track process improvements through critical metrics and adjusts processes as necessary to gain additional process improvements.

Additionally, the ideal candidate also has strong analytical, strategic planning, and communication skills.
Experience in the oversight and analysis of transportation policy, programs or procedures is desirable.
