The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Financial Assistance has an opening for a Senior Engineering Geologist in the Cleanup Fund. The position is located at 801 K Street, Sacramento CA, 95814 right in the heart of downtown close to light rail stations, other public transportation, awesome restaurants, and more.
Duties:
Under the general direction of the Supervising Engineering Geologist and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State Water Resources Control Board Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal/external customers, follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments. The incumbent is responsible for the supervision and direction of technical staff that perform geological, engineering, and hydrogeological reviews of data related to petroleum underground storage tank (UST) regulatory cases, and implementation of the Expedited Cleanup Account Program (ECAP) established by Senate Bill 445 (Hill, 2014). The incumbent works within the technical sections which support Cleanup Fund programs by performing engineering, geological, and hydrogeological reviews of data related to petroleum UST release sites. This position requires interaction with internal and external stakeholders, training staff and maintaining staff productivity. The work environment is fast-paced with opportunities to innovate and lead positive change.
Specific duties include the following: Supervises, directs, and monitors technical staff implementing ECAP. ECAP is required to investigate and implement methods for reducing overall cost for site cleanup and time to reach closure. Reviews address identification of Low-Threat Underground Storage Tank Case Closure Policy criteria that need to be met; site-specific work scopes needed to be performed in order for the case to meet the criteria, including investigation, design and operation of remediation systems, case closure tasks; cost estimates to perform the work; budget change requests and reimbursement requests for eligible, and reasonable and necessary corrective action costs. Coordinates closely with other managers and staff in the Cleanup Fund Branch. The incumbent is responsible for providing timely and professional assistance to the public, stakeholders, internal staff, and external agencies by various methods of communication.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
