The JOB of Electro-Mechanical R&D Engineer
We are looking for a mechanical engineer with expertise in rapid prototyping to drive the strategic growth and assessment of emerging technologies. While an expert at mechanical design and fast at computer aided design and drafting (CAD), you have a broad technical background that includes basic software development, opto-mechanical and electromechanical design, which enables you to know when to stress details and when to move fast to build the right prototype.
You will participate on a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers to provide advice, guidance, and insights to key client stakeholders and your peers on what to build and the tradeoffs between speed and robustness. You will also mature the existing and new prototypes to increasing levels and work with product-focused engineers to translate early prototypes into field-deployable systems.

- Responsible for mechanical drawings from prototyping to production
- Responsible for assembly, testing and installation of prototypes and final products
- Design and develop mechanical components and systems for the company’s products and other devices in company’s R&D efforts
- Manage and maintain current product line of opto-mechanical and Photonics products.
- Performing basic optical calculations and simulations in conjunction with mechanical design to develop specifications and verify the design meets the specification
- Performing basic electronics calculations and PCB design to develop specifications and verify the design meets the specification
- Communicating with vendors, machine shops, to solve any problem encountered during manufacturing of the mechanical parts
- Occasionally, travel to customer facilities in the USA for support and installation of products
- Maintaining related documentation such as BOMs, drawings and preferred vendors
- System level thinking and cross-disciplinary interactions

- Experience in product design and prototyping, with a focus in the areas of mechanical design, embedded electronics, electro-mechanical systems, and rapid manufacturing
- Experience with SolidWorks or other CAD, modeling and design documentation
- Experience with programming embedded systems using Raspberry Pi or equivalent protoboard using
- Ability to conceive and explain complex engineering concepts, including communication of in-depth technical ideas and solutions to a variety of audiences via presentations and reports
- BS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent field of study
- Resident or willing to relocate to Washington DC Metro area
- OPT is possible, let’s discuss
Nice If You Have:
- Performing basic optical calculations and simulations in conjunction with mechanical design to verify the design meets the specification
- Experience in vacuum technologies such as thin film deposition and etching
- Experience with various manufacturing techniques, including machining, 3D printing
- Knowledge of printed circuit board design and layout
- Possession of excellent verbal and written communication skills
- MSc. degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field: EE, Aerospace, Optical
