Job Description
This paid, part-time internship (up to 10 hours per week) will primarily support RiverTrends, the Alliance’s water volunteer-based water quality monitoring project in Virginia. The intern will support the water quality monitoring project staff through administrative work, volunteer management and support, and occasional time in the field (80%). This project will also support Virginia’s Green Infrastructure Team by conducting research for future project locations and by acting as support staff during volunteer events at tree planting and garden maintenance events (20%).
Specific Duties of the Position:
- Assist with volunteer water quality monitoring training events throughout Virginia by preparing, verifying, and calibrating equipment and supplies for training sessions.
- Review water quality data submitted by volunteers, conduct quality assurance and publish it to the online database.
- Support monitoring equipment maintenance, management, and distribution.
- Support volunteer monitors with field work and equipment troubleshooting.
- Support the Green Infrastructure Team by conducting research on future urban tree planting sites, mapping these sites, and creating outreach materials for communities in these areas.
- Support the Green Infrastructure Team by assisting in planning and executing volunteer maintenance events at current Alliance project sites.
- Assist with other projects in the Richmond, VA office as assigned.
