About NSL4A Fellowship

 

National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) is a 501(c)(4) organization with a mission to advocate for positions, values, and individuals that strengthen the United States as a democratic nation.  Our core beliefs are:

 

  • Truth and an educated, engaged public are essential for a functioning democracy;
  • Positions of government trust must be held by individuals of character and integrity, and they need our support in their work; and
  • Protecting our strategic and vital national interests requires strong global leadership based on democratic ideals, robust diplomacy, economic engagement, and an unmatched military capability.

 

National Security Leaders for America brings together unparalleled senior government expertise in shaping, developing, and defending U.S. democracy and national security.  Our members are former national security leaders and retired diplomats, senior military officers, senior enlisted personnel, and their spouses. Our diversity of experiences and backgrounds offers a wide range of non-partisan voices to counter the increasingly polarized debate and misinformation that threaten to undermine our democracy. 

 

We dedicate ourselves to supporting individuals of the highest integrity willing to serve in positions of government trust and to promoting public education about our democracy and the institutions upon which it depends. 

 

The goal of the fellow’s program is to educate individuals of character and integrity about our vital national interest and offer advice and assistance to potential National Security Leaders on how to contribute to the future success of the United States as a democracy. 

 

The fellow’s program is designed to incentivize college level students as well as mid-level/senior government professionals to enter or continue in government service and to grow in their knowledge and skills in National Security areas of expertise.  The program will be structured with an Advisory Board, a group of Fellows Advisory Mentors, and the Fellows themselves.   

 

The National Security Leaders for America (NSL4A) Fellows

 

The Fellows work with the National Security Leaders of the NSL4A organization to achieve the goals of the organization. These actions could include policy papers, panel discussions, editorials, social media posts, and other scholarship endeavors to advocate for the positions of NSL4A.  

 

The NSL4A Fellowship is a one-year unpaid fellowship with the possibility for extension.  The position is expected to demand up to 10 hours per week of time from the Fellow.  Each NSL4A Fellow will enjoy the access to and collaboration with some of the premier minds in foreign affairs and national security: As stated earlier, their will be two levels of Fellows; Senior Fellows (those already employed at mid or senior level in national security areas of expertise) and Fellows (college level students) aspiring to enter into government service in the national security area.   

 

NSL4A Requirements for data support fellow:

1.     Advanced spreadsheet skills in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, including writing formulas, creating pivot tables and charts, and using data manipulation functions 

2.     Strong data management skills for collecting & merging data sets, quality-checking data, and aggregating & reporting data

3.     Proficient knowledge of common office programs (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Suite) and group communication tools (e.g., Google Groups, mail merges, Zoom, shared calendars)

4.     Within Google Suite, knowledge of creating & using Google Forms, linking Google Sheets, managing user permissions, and setting up notifications

5.     Strong organizational skills for workflow tracking and communication follow ups

6.     Quick learner with initiative and aptitude to learn and self-teach new tools & programs

7. Preferred: proficient in SQL

 

This job requires a minimum 6-month commitment! 

 

The NSL4A Fellows will be responsible for and expected to provide direct: 

 

  • Institutional Support to the organization’s Executive Director, Directors, and COO in fulfilling the NSL4A mission statement
  • Conduct Research and Analysis on efforts the organizations should choose to support
  • Engage in outreach to key national security government and non-governmental actors
  • Work with the COO to oversee the Executive Director and Directors visions, initiatives and project development and management
  • Support event design and management
  • Provide editorial support and author pieces supporting initiatives for publication
