As a Technical Specialist of Unmanned Systems, Technical Specialist of Training, or Drone Operator, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-level technical training and instructional services. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in unmanned systems, technology, and the ability to solve complex problems while engaging with diverse clients, including Department of Defense (DoD) personnel. You will lead and facilitate various training initiatives, mentor junior staff, and contribute to the development of new curriculum and training strategies.
Reporting Structure
This role reports directly to the Manager or Director level. You will have the opportunity to independently lead tasks and collaborate with senior leadership on high-priority projects.
Responsibilities
Technology Instruction
- Lead and instruct on Building Momentum’s flagship training programs (Innovation Boot Camp).
- Teach key modules in areas such as:
- CAD, 3D Printing, Drones, Microcontroller Platforms (Arduino, Raspberry Pi)
- Robotics, C++/Python Programming
- Software Defined Radios, jamming, surveillance technologies, and more
- Develop and refine technical curriculum, ensuring content is accessible for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support innovation in rapid prototyping and software development for DoD clients.
Client/Contract Management
- Actively engage with clients to understand their needs and deliver technical solutions.
- Provide guidance and feedback internally, review deliverables for quality, and ensure client expectations are met.
Financial Management
- Track project utilization and collaborate with managers to ensure high utilization rates.
- Ensure adherence to project performance guidelines and regulatory standards.
Corporate Growth/Business Development
- Contribute to business development through proposal work and corporate initiatives.
- Participate in professional development by completing at least 10 hours of relevant training annually.
People Management
- Take ownership of key workstreams and mentor junior team members to ensure successful project completion.
- Support the professional growth of peers and new hires.
Hard Requirements
- Education: Undergraduate degree in engineering, technology, design, or a science discipline (or equivalent vocational experience). Alternatively, 5+ years of relevant commercial or military experience.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or a green card holder who can pass a background check and receive a Tier 1 (Formerly NACI or level 1) – non-sensitive position clearance.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to present complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
- Teamwork: Ability to work well in a collaborative, high-energy team environment.
- Self-Motivation: Internally driven with a strong enthusiasm for solving complex technical problems.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks related to unmanned systems training.
- Austere Environment Adaptability: Comfortable working in challenging environments and with military personnel.
- Organizational Skills: Highly organized, punctual, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
- Creativity and Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to think creatively and solve problems using innovative technologies.
- Other: Must be able to drive and holds a valid US drivers license
Preferred Requirements
- Advanced Education: Master’s degree in engineering, technology, design, or a science discipline, or 5+ years of relevant commercial or military experience.
- Certifications: FAA Part 107, HAM radio license.
Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of C++ and Python programming.
- Familiarity with RF technologies and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) principles.
- Experience with microelectronics, microcontrollers, and robotics platforms.
- Proficiency with unmanned aerial systems (UAS), including multirotors and fixed-wing systems.
- Experience with ArduPilot and other open-source autopilot systems.
- Understanding of sensor integration, telemetry, and data communication in unmanned systems.
- Familiarity with RF transmission, video systems, and data links for FPV (First-Person View) systems.
Pay: $70,000 - $100,000 (based on experience and proficiency)
