Research Scientist I (JR-0001515)
Responsibilities
Health Research, Inc. is seeking a part time (50%) Research Scientist I to work within the Scientific Cores, Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH). The incumbent will join a team of public health professionals working on a collaborative project to develop a next-generation serology assay for the diagnosis of Trypanosoma cruzi infection, an assay that may enable earlier detection and treatment of Chagas Disease. Through these studies, the Wadsworth Center seeks to understand the immunologic basis for discrepant results seen in current serological tests for Chagas Disease, and provide a low-cost, one-step test that will reliably identify patients eligible for treatment. The incumbent will collect, organize, and handle patient specimens; plan and perform microsphere immunoassays; contribute to the maintenance of instrumentation; analyze data and interpret results; prepare charts and graphs; and contribute to drafting manuscripts for publication in scientific journals based on these analyses.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of research experience; OR a Master’s degree in a related field and one year of research experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Graduate degree in Immunology and one year experience conducting clinical serology testing and data analysis.
- Experience in the development of laboratory developed tests.
- Experience in flow cytometry, ELISA, and Luminex instrumentation.
- Familiarity with clinical regulatory guidelines and LDT validation requirements.
- Completion of CITI training.
- Experience with biostatistics and graphing using GraphPad Prism.
Conditions of Employment
Temporary, part time (50% FTE), grant funded position expected to last through 10/1/25. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.
Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
The selected candidate must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the official work location specified in the job posting and must also be located in or willing to relocate to one of the following states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Vermont, or Massachusetts, prior to hire. Telecommuting will not be available.
Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment.
