Economic Development Intern

The City of St Cloud is seeking an intern to support Economic Development.  This position will assist in advancing initiatives that promote business growth, community vitality, and innovation for St. Cloud’s future development.  The successful candidate will have strong communication and customer service skills, be a self-starter, and have a keen interest in promoting economic growth, resources and opportunities. 

Job Duties include:

  • Assist in developing and implementing various initiatives as part of a Business Retention and Expansion program including enhancing the City’s outreach, customer management system administration, research, and other duties.
  • Assist with the development of communication and informational materials to promote City programs, events, initiatives, and resources to the local business community, including updating City databases, creating and preparing spreadsheets, and communication materials, such as the Development Activity Dashboard.
  • Help administer current Economic Development Authority (EDA) grant programs.
  • Conduct research and provide support for EDA-directed initiatives or topics, including data collection, trend analysis, and preparing reports or presentations.
  • Attend various city meetings or events as assigned.  These may include the occasional evening meeting.
  • Attend monthly LINK (Leading Interns’ Network and Knowledge) meetings, virtual and in person, in addition to opportunities to attend other conference/trainings.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Degree or currently enrolled in a program with a focus on economic development, community development, public administration, or other closely related fields; proficient in Excel and Word (Microsoft Office Programs); and valid, unrestricted driver’s license and good driving record.

SCHEDULE: Internship starts in June, with at least a (3) month commitment. 10-25 hours per week M-F during normal business hours (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM); Hours per week can be flexible, and must be able to attend occasional evening meetings.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Successful completion of one semester of a program in a related field; and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Self-motivated, resourceful, and capable of completing tasks or assignments with moderate supervision; demonstrated interest in community development, urban planning, real estate, and/or business; knowledge of state, federal, and local government processes; proficiency in using personal computers and software applications; ability to maintain accurate records and prepare clear, detailed reports; ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to community and economic development initiatives, including trends and demographics; experience or interest in interacting with diverse stakeholders, including residents, businesses, and government officials.
