Top Paying Private Tutor Positions: Math, Chemistry, Biology

We are looking for applicants to join our team of trusted tutors for the upcoming school year (September 2025 - June 2026). The work is part time, but we are looking to hire people who can work two days in-person in San Francisco (at least one of which must be M - Th) and one additional day online. Tutoring hours are outside of normal school hours and we work predominantly with high school students. For employees who commute from Berkeley, a company car is provided (with gas and tolls paid) and travel time is compensated.

We prefer graduate students but would consider exceptional undergrads too. Our tutors only work within their greatest expertise, which means the science applicants should either have or be near completing a degree in MCB, Integrative Biology, Chemistry, or a related field that has had a heavy focus on Biology or Chemistry. Our math applicants should be in an Applied Math program, ideally with a working understanding of statistics.

Science applicants should also indicate if they would like to be trained to tutor for the ACT exam as well.

Requirements:

- Degree (or close) in appropriate field, as described above

- Experience teaching and/or tutoring students for 2 or more years

- Ability to demonstrate and foster the development of emotional intelligence

- Computer and tech literate

- Willing to be trained and to adopt new skills

- Patience and integrity

- The ability to explain complicated topics until 9 or 10 pm

Core Responsibilities:

- Preparing for upcoming appointments, based on materials that students provide in advance (preparation time is paid)

- Arriving on time and prepared for every appointment

- Supporting students in completing homework, preparing for tests, and other school-related tasks

- Establishing a strong rapport with students, encouraging open discussion and mutual respect

- Working effectively with technology, for the sake of calendaring, communication, using a calculator, etc.

- Finding new ways of breaking down ideas.

- Being responsive to texts and emails outside of work hours.

- Dealing honestly with colleagues and clients at all times.

Nice to Have Skills:

- An understanding of psychology, ideally through a college major or minor program
- Camp counselor experience

- Hobbies such as music or foreign language that students can relate to
