Job Summary
Under the direction and guidance of a licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) provides treatment to patients suffering from injuries or muscle, nerve, joint, and bone diseases. The goal is to improve/restore function, increase strength, relieve pain, and enhance functional independence. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Required Qualifications
Graduate of a Physical Therapy Assistant Program
PTA license in good standing in the State of Michigan
BLS certification (required within 3 months of hire)
Current Michigan driver’s license, reliable transportation, and auto insurance (required for Bronson at Home)
Basic word processing and typing skills
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively as part of the care delivery team
Preferred: Previous experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant
Clinical Responsibilities
Follow plan of care and goals established by the Physical Therapist
Provide direct patient care (physical, electrical, mechanical, and heat treatments)
Lead individual and/or group PT activities
Educate families and the community
Participate in interdisciplinary team discussions and hospital rounds
Serve as a resource person and contribute to program development
Participate in student education and in-services
Provide coverage at other rehab departments as needed
Administrative Responsibilities
Timely documentation in the electronic health record
Maintain accurate, legible, and complete patient records
Communicate any limitations preventing timely documentation
Participate in process improvement and serve on committees or task forces
Demonstrate time management skills
Supervise Rehab Clinical Assistants, PTA students, and volunteers
Additional Notes
This position requires regular physical activity, including standing, walking, light lifting (up to 20 lbs), and assisting with patient mobility. The role demands a high level of interpersonal interaction and may involve visually/mentally fatiguing tasks.
For Bronson at Home roles, use of a personal vehicle for business purposes requires passing an MVR check prior to hire, and proof of valid insurance must be maintained throughout employment.
