Schreiber Foods, Inc.

Maintenance Engineering Intern

May - December 2023 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

I really enjoyed the people Schreiber Foods employs. Everyone was very friendly and helpful, and it made you feel as if you had been working there for awhile.

What I wish was different

I wish I had done more job shadowing during my time there, but it was given as an option.

Advice

I would definitely recommend Schreiber Foods if you want to work for a great company with great people.

Research & Development Intern

May 2024 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

Everyone in the Schreiber family! They are all so welcoming and provide many opportunities to grow your knowledge in the field of dairy. Beyond learning through the R&D team, you get to meet other partners from different sectors at the home office (HO). If there’s a new sector you want to explore, go for it! Brief overview of an R&D intern, you will get assigned a project to work on the whole summer (and other side quests!). There’s plenty of resources available to help you succeed (including your R&D scientists) and opportunities to venture around to learn.

What I wish was different

Maybe the seating arrangement in the home office? Even though the interns do sit close together, it can be difficult to have a good view of the whole “intern nation” (due to how the desk are arranged). However, that’s just a minor issue because there are many ways to reach out to your team.

Advice

The schedule for your first or two weeks would be mostly empty and that’s okay! Take this opportunity to connect with other scientists on your team. A great starting place is the pilot plant, you will likely find a R&D scientist working on their project. :)

Talent Acquisition Intern

November 2023 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

I loved the company culture, and the encouragement I received from my team. I was able to enhance and advance my technical skills while in this role, while also receiving valuable feedback from my team. I was able to apply the skills I am currently learning in school to my work. I am treated as part of the team which I really appreciate. I love the hands-on experience I am able to receive through this role. The tacit knowledge I've been gaining through this internship has been invaluable! I also really enjoy the fact that it is a year-round internship, I feel like I get to learn a lot more about Talent Acquisition and Schreiber as a whole.

What I wish was different

As a remote worker, I wish there were more opportunities to meet the team in person.

Advice

Ask questions! Don't be afraid to ask for more, or to ask to learn something. Take in everything that you can.

What I liked

Very nice environment. Co-workers are positive, the building is brand new, and it's a great chance to work in a big company. Schreiber has over 8000 employees!

What I wish was different

Computer equipment could be better. Full salaried partners are given adequate computers, but interns aren't so lucky. Be ready to ask for an upgrade right away.

Advice

Try to be open and collaborative with everyone you have the opportunity to work with. There are tons of opportunities to learn here.

Although some of it was during the Covid-19 pandemic I value my time at Schreiber Foods because they immediately treated me like family. What I wish was different

No not at all, this company makes you feel wanted.

Advice

Keep asking questions. Keep learning. This is the best way to get everything you absolutely can out of the internship.

Research and Development Intern

January 2019 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

I love seeing how my degree can be applied in the work force. I feel like I am gaining great professional experience. I also really enjoy feeling like a part of a team while also having my own individual projects.

What I wish was different

The only think that I wish was different was how my school schedule impacts my work schedule because it is sometimes hard for me to find the time to go into work due to when I have classes.

Advice

Take a chances and try new things. I did not know anything about the dairy industry or food science going in so this internship was definitely an example of me trying something new. Because I have no experience in food science, I also was not sure how I would compare to others interviewing for the position but I took my chance and tried anyways and it has honestly been one of the best choices of my life.

Research and Development Intern

May - August 2018 • Green Bay, WI

What I liked

I loved the people I worked with and the projects that I got to work on. I really felt like I made a difference in this company, even if it was a small difference. I learned a lot from my team, I was able to apply the concepts I had learned in school to my work, and I was able to meet a lot of new people which included other interns, professionals, and upper management of the company. The company culture was very positive and motivational.

What I wish was different

The company I worked for had several manufacturing facilities around the United States, and unfortunately, I was not one of the interns who had the opportunity to travel to a different plant. I wish I could have traveled to another plant to see what the atmosphere was like and see the products being made in action.

Advice

Go into your internship excited and eager to learn. Always keep asking questions and have a continuous desire to learn more.
